News Article: “Artful teaching is key to creativity, critical thinking” (Toronto Star, Sept. 4)

I came across this article in the Toronto Star last week by ArtSmarts’ Executive Director, Jason von Eyk, on the importance of the 4Cs (“Curiosity, Creativity, Collaboration and Critical Thinking”)  in education.

Here’s an excerpt:

“[…]There is a significant body of research, from education to neuroscience, which supports an arts-centred approach to integrating the 4Cs into school-based teaching, resulting in improved student learning engagement, satisfaction and achievement. For example, UCLA’s Dr. James Catterall has done extensive work that demonstrates improved student academic achievement and social engagement when learning takes place in arts-rich environments…”
