A Growing Community

Since April 2009, ArtBridges staff and volunteers have researched and identified approximately 500 community arts and arts for social change initiatives across Canada that work mainly in under-resourced and under-serviced communities. We are still continuing our research, particularly with francophone initiatives. We are busy creating profiles about each one and posting them on our blog as we go along. Our process is to work with each initiative in preparing a profile and nothing is posted without written permission. We will keep this growing list up to date as we go along!

Community Served:

• Community arts/arts for social change/arts for community engagement projects, programs, organizations and resources across Canada with a focus on work in collaboration with under-resourced/under-serviced communities.
• Professional artists in collaboration with communities.  
• The unincorporated, or collectives, artist-run centres and charitable not-for-profits that deliver arts services, art resources, art education to children, youth and/or adults. 
• Communities that do not have an art centre/project where there is a recognized gap in service and an expressed need.
• Diverse communities of all sizes and geographic locations across Canada including urban, inner-city, northern, rural, remote and reserves.
• Art students, artists, community artist practitioners/animators, staff, volunteers, student placements, board members (of community arts organizations), community workers.
• Groups that provide a range of arts disciplines, practices, traditions, interdisciplinary work and new media.
• Art schools, universities, colleges, academic institutions
• Francophone, English-language based and bilingual.
• People of all ethnicities, ancestries, citizenships, creeds, family statuses, mental and physical abilities, ages, gender identities, socio-economic statuses, levels of literacy, marital statuses, political affiliations, races and criminal backgrounds.

Audience:
Community Served, as well as: funders, art councils, people who work or volunteer in established arts disciplines, interested public at large (people wanting to volunteer, donate art supplies, get involved, fundraise, etc.)
