“The Community Arts Program (CAP) is available to community-based arts organizations and groups. The program funds projects related to arts workshops, presentations, productions, new creations, adjudicator fees, artist fees, and travel costs.”

Grant: ArtsSmarts
ArtsSmarts is funded through the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education’s Cultural Connections Strategy and the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC). In Newfoundland and Labrador ArtsSmarts is administered by the NLAC.

The ArtsSmarts Mission: To afford schools and their communities a chance to enhance artistic activities linked to educational outcomes. The desire is to encourage students to develop their intellectual skills through active participation in the arts. In this context, the program goal is to engage young people in artistic activity to develop supporters and practitioners of the arts by nurturing creative thinkers.”

Grant: Visiting Artist Program
“Schools can apply to the Visiting Artist Program (VAP) to bring individual artists, groups of artists, or arts organizations into the school to provide students with direct personal contact with practicing professional artists. The program covers artist fees, materials, and travel costs. The program is offered in partnership with the Cultural Connections Strategy of the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education, the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA), and the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC).”

Grant: School Touring Program
“The School Touring Program (STP) is available to professional artists, groups and not-for-profit arts organizations to support significant touring productions to schools throughout the province. Offered in partnership with the Department of Education through its Cultural Connections Strategy, the program provides students with direct access to high quality artistic experiences. The program covers touring costs only (i.e. travel, accommodation, per diems, artist and technician fees, tour administration, royalties, and limited rehearsal).”

Mandate: The Woodland Cultural Centre is a First Nations educational and cultural centre. It was established in 1972 to protect, promote, interpret, and present the history, language, intellect and cultural heritage of the Anishinaabe and Onkwehon:we. This mandate is from our member Nations: Wahta Mohawks, Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
The Woodland Cultural Centre will demonstrate the highest standards of excellence in the practice, presentation, interpretation and collection of resources in Education; Museology; Arts; Language and Cultural Heritage in order to foster an appreciation of the intellect and promote an accurate image of First Nations in Canada and abroad.
Main Arts Activities/Projects:
First Nations Art: This annual arts exhibition has been at Woodland for close to forty years. Content for this show features First Nations artists from all across Turtle Island at every stage in their career. This exhibition has helped launch the artistic careers of many First Nations artists.
Planet IndigenUS: In partnership with Harbourfront Centre, Planet IndigenUS is the largest multidisciplinary, contemporary, international Indigenous arts festival in the world! Celebrate the future while honouring the rich cultural past. Planet IndigenUS 2012 at Woodland will feature such artists at Susan Aglukark, Charlie Hill, Don Burnstick, Benny Walker, Joel Johnson, Lisa Odjig, Ali Fontaine, and many, many more.

Education Extension: Have a group that is interested in learning more about the culture and artistry of the Haudenosaunee people? The Education Extension officer will visit you on-site or host a workshop at Woodland, offering a variety of workshops based on your groups needs. Art Project: dIE ActIvE Art Collective Graffiti Project (Thunder Bay, ON)

Thunder Bay’s dIE ActIvE Art Collective recently completed a project where youth artists were invited to paint a train car donated by local company, Mission Terminal. dIe ActIvE hosted a week of workshops in preparation for the project that included graffiti stencil design and spray techniques and a painting demo by visiting graffiti artist, James Jameserson. Artists were required to attend at least two days of workshops to be able to participate in the project, which was covered by local media. Click here to read the article or here to watch a video. Christos Tsirbas, vice-président actuel du Labo, est un réalisateur, photographe et écrivain dont le travail est paru au National Post, fab, Instinct et à Radio CBC entre autres. En 2009, il a été finaliste au Concours Tremplin de l’Office National du Film pour des réalisateurs émergents. Son court métrage Smile a gagné le premier prix au Toronto Urban Film Festival de 2008 et meilleure animation au Nokia MobiFest de 2009. En 2007, il a été nommé “Toronto Mobile Filmmaker of the Year” à Mobifest pour son court métrage Upgrade.

En tant que membre du mois, Christos partagera les idées qui l’inspirent et qui façonnent sa pratique, tel un conteur se servant de plusieurs médiums pour explorer les histoires qu’on se raconte. Il nous présentera aussi une sélection de son travail fait en solo et en collaboration, ainsi qu’un aperçu en primeur sur quelques uns de ses projets à venir.

ArtReach Toronto invites you to “submit nominations for this new award that recognizes the outstanding contributions of young artists and youth arts groups addressing social justice issues in Toronto. Two awards will be provided, honouring one young artist and one youth arts group / organization creating opportunities for youth to access and be engaged in the arts. Two cash prizes of $1000 will be provided to the award winners, as sponsored by Susan Harris and David Kassie.

“Call out to South Asian Youth (13 – 29) to participate in free youth by youth arts program to explore arts as a form of self-expression.

Q? Y Art? is a multi-disciplinary arts program for South Asian youth (13-29) who identify as members of the LGBTTIQQ2S/WSW/MSM communities; youth will engage in arts practices, create portfolios and launch their work.

** By South Asian we mean with history or language that is: Indo-Caribbean, Tamil, South Asian, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Or…?

**By LGBTTIQQ2S/WSW/MSM, we mean Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, Two Spirit, Women who have Sex with Women, Men who have Sex with Men

Two different ways to participate: ONE OFF WORKSHOPS and/or INTENSIVE PROGRAM

ONE OFF Workshops (YOUTH 13 – 19)

These stand alone workshops will take place weekday evenings in different locations throughout the city. Each workshop will focus on one art form, facilitated by one of our talented guest artist facilitators. All workshops will be free and food and TTC tokens will be provided

INTENSIVE PROGRAM (Youth 18 – 29)

This program brings together folks in a three day intensive program to challenge queer and trans phobia, as well as racism – we’re trying to create a space for youth to talk about how they experience these, whether external or internalized. There will be opportunities to explore creative writing and performance, plus a chance to talk about histories as well as current events, as they can relate to South Asian LGBTTIQQ2S/WSW/MSM youth. There is definitely room for you to tailor the program to what you want!

When: Saturday July 21, Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29
What time: 11:30 – 5pm each day
Where: Delisle Youth Services S.T.A.R.S. Space ( Yonge and Eglinton)!

Each day will have 5 hours of programming exploring multiple art forms in workshops facilitated by some of our talented guest artist facilitators. The intensive program is at no cost to participants and food and TTC tokens will be provided.

“We’ve recently added weekly sessions on Thursday afternoons at YMCA’s new location at 7 Vanauley – we will be working in their drop-in space doing murals on their walls and other artmaking projects.

Also, please note that we will be closed July 16-19 for our annual program development retreat. We will reopen as per usual July 24th.”
